Falls Church, Va. (Aug. 11, 2014) —The long-established national VETERANS’ VISION publication put its hard-earned credibility behind Michael J. Roberts today, fighting in support of his election to the House of Representatives in Minnesota’s 2nd District.
“Mr. Roberts is a decorated veteran and a promising young leader,” stated Major Brian Hampton, USAR (ret.), publisher of the VETERANS’ VISION. “He has assured us that veterans are a top priority on his agenda. I’ve been covering elections for over 20 years; I know that Mr. Roberts is the kind of leader who will follow through on that promise.”
On his 17th birthday, Mr. Roberts joined the Army, serving from 1988-94, including a tour of duty in Operation Desert Storm. During his service, he was a platoon guide, squad leader, and trainer for the claymore mine, anti-tank rocket launcher, and nuclear-biological chemical programs.
Michael Roberts has buckled down to get veterans the benefits they rightly deserve, making VA reform one of the pillars of his platform. He has called on the VA to negotiate in its procurement services, and collect all outstanding insurance fees owed to the agency. Not coincidentally, these two points are consistent with two of the four objectives laid out in the VETERANS’ VISION’s 2014 Veterans’ Bill of Rights (VBOR).
Mr. Roberts recognizes the largest problems facing veterans at the VA, resolving through his affirmation of the VBOR that 1) Veterans are a top priority; 2) He supports the drastic reduction of the wait times on disability claims in the VA; 3) The VA ought to negotiate for its procurement services; and finally, 4) The VA should fill out all possible insurance claims owed to it.
The VA has been lax in collecting on all of its procurement and insurance claims—actions that have greatly contributed to the nation’s staggering deficit. Congressional oversight of the VA is a powerful tool that can benefit our veterans. If Congress would simply compel the VA to do its job, the money generated from the uncollected insurance claims could be used to open roughly 200 new health care clinics for veterans in areas over 200 miles from the nearest VA hospital. The money collected could also provide veterans 300,000 dental procedures, facilities for 20,000 homeless veterans, and a myriad of other services.
“Veterans and the people of Minnesota’s 2nd District have a committed friend in Mr. Roberts,” Hampton went on to say. “He and his staff seem eager to begin the fight for veterans in Congress, and it doesn’t look like he’ll be backing down from the challenge.”
“We contacted Michael Roberts’s primary opponent, Mr. Obermueller’s, campaign many times asking him to affirm the VBOR and his support for our nation’s veterans. Unfortunately, after nine contacts, we still have not received an answer from the campaign. Although the campaign staff seemed excited, saying they ‘would get back in touch’ with us, [we] never received the candidate’s answer. When the electoral board met, we still had no response, making the board’s decision to endorse Mr. Roberts very easy one,” Benjamin Peoples, Political Editor at the VETERANS’ VISION said.
Since 1993, The VETERANS’ VISION has harnessed the power of the media on behalf of American Veterans, by keeping elected officials’ “feet to the fire”. Two U.S. Presidents, four Presidential candidates, ten Cabinet Secretaries, 20 Presidential appointees at DoD and over 120 Members of Congress have written original articles for the publication. Every two years, the most carefully read portion of the publication is the section on endorsements for federal office.
In addition to its national circulation, the publication has been handed out to tens of thousands at the last ten national party conventions.  Endorsements by the publication have proven to be highly coveted, and some can be viewed by web searching ‘The VETERANS’ VISION publication endorsements.’ The website also includes photographs and past covers from the master cartoonist, Bruce Norris.
Featuring articles of interest to veterans and non-veterans alike, the publication focuses the experience and dedication of leaders of the country on the challenges facing our nation.
